Listening out for different tonalities is a great aural skill to teach your kids. What's lovely is that students will then start to hear these differences and can then apply them to story telling situations. If you're reading a particular book with your class you could bring it to "movie" life by finding a piece of music that is "happy" sounding (which will mean it's most likely in a major key) and a piece of music that is "sad" sounding (minor) or even "dramatic" - mysterious or tense or even scary and put these pieces on while you read your book!
